MERMAID WAVE POWER PLANT ~ Model MPKW-50
REQUIRED SITE ASSESSMENT BEFORE PURCHASE
Energy Audit
Energy Audit of wave energy at the site using the SWAN program with input from nearby Government Buoy wave data; and local bathymetry data.
Conditions of water front immediate foreshore and adjacent activities, ideal is a steep or semi steep bank though low bank waterfront can be acceptable.
1.
2.
Ownership of land adjacent to the water front.
3.
Willingness to apply for and maintain a BC Government Foreshore Lease (we will will help with drawings, etc. for this application).
4.
BC Hydro Net Metering initial assessment (to determine if the BC Hydro grid in your area can accept the additional supply of electricity).
5.
Site location in terms of deployment costs and storm wave expectations (at this time we are not deploying systems on the west side of Vancouver Island).
6.
Site location in terms of public uptake and acceptance of device (this can range from neighbors and local interest groups to local government and non-government bodies).
7.
SWAN accounts for the following physics:
-- Wave propagation in time and
space, shoaling, refraction due to
current and depth, frequency shifting
due to currents and non-stationary
depth.
-- Wave generation by wind.
-- Three- and four-wave interactions.
-- Whitecapping, bottom friction and
depth-induced breaking.
-- Dissipation due to vegetation.
-- Wave-induced set-up..
-- Transmission through and reflection
(specular and diffuse) against
obstacles.
-- Diffraction.
SWAN is made at the Delft University of Technology and is supported by Office of Naval Research (USA) and Rijkswaterstaat (as part of the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, The Netherlands).
